Andrey Serezhenko was abducted from his home by FSB officers on 29 June 2022.

Andrey was first held at "Steklotara", one of the most notorious places of torture and detention in occupied Kherson, after which he was transported to an unknown destination. For a year and a half, Serezhenko's relatives did not know where he was or what was happening to him. It was only in February 2024 that was he officially charged with aiding an act of international terrorism and storing and transporting an explosive device. According to Memorial, as of March 2026 he is being held at FKU Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 1 of the FSIN Department for the Chechen Republic.

According to the FSB, Serezhenko participated in the assassination attempt on Yevgeny Sobolev, who had been appointed by the Russian occupying authorities as head of the "Penitentiary Service Department of the Kherson Region." Sobolev's vehicle exploded on 18 June 2022. He survived. Serezhenko's case is built exclusively on his confession, which he partially retracted in court. He was likely forced to incriminate himself under threats and torture. The case was received by the Southern District Military Court on 5 June 2024. Serezhenko was charged under Part 3 of Article 222.1 and Part 2 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code. On 6 August 2024, judge Denis Aleksandrovich Galkin returned the case for further investigation, stating "the actual circumstances indicate grounds for qualifying the actions as a more serious crime." On 14 November 2024, the charges were reclassified to Part 1 of Article 361 and Part 3 of Article 222.1 of the Russian Criminal Code.

On 13 May 2025, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Andrey Serezhenko to 17 years of imprisonment, with the first 2 years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict-regime correctional colony, with a fine of 300,000 rubles. He was found guilty of an act of international terrorism (under Part 1 of Article 361).
